The star-formation process in a magnetic interstellar cloud is examined theoretically in a review of current research. Topics discussed include criteria for the dynamical contraction of clouds, cloud fragmentation, the magnetic flux of a cloud, plasma and magnetic-field drift, charged-particle densities, the time scale of magnetic-flux loss, and quasi-static and dynamic models of cloud contraction. The gas is found to decouple from the magnetic field as the density exceeds about 5.2 x 10 to the 11th/cu cm, and the magnetic field brought into the newborn star is estimated as 0.8 gauss. Graphs, diagrams, and tables are provided.
