Results are presented which contradict the theory of a giant meteorite in Adrar, Mauritania. In December 1988, a 40-m-high hill corresponding to the outcropping that Ripert has suggested to be a large metallic mass was analyzed. In contrast to the suggestion of Ripert, the hill was found to consist of sedimentary rock lying on transverse-structured sandstone bedrock surrounded by black Zli sandstone.
