Starting from the fundamental definition of fractal dimension and using the catalog given by the CfA redshift survey as the parent sample, the fractal dimension in the large scale distribution of galaxies with different luminosities has been investigated. The results show that: the large scale distributions of galaxies in different luminosity intervals have a definite fractal dimension only in certain ranges, and the values of fractal dimensions are not close to 1.2-1.4 as usually expected; the galaxies with different luminosities have different fractal dimensions in their large-scale distribution. This may show that galaxies with different luminosity do have different features in their large scale distribution. The analysis has also found that the fractal dimension of more luminous galaxies changes distinctly at certain scales. This may show that there is no simple fractal structure in galaxy distribution.
