Papers are presented on magnetic field line reconnection in collisionless plasmas, theories of magnetotail structures, transient phenomena in the magnetotail and their relation to substorms, and reconnection in the magnetotail. Also considered are the structure of the magnetopause in relation to reconnection, effects of the IMF on the auroral oval and plasmapause, and heavy ions in the magnetosphere.
