Lauten and Ray pointed out the case of metrics (of correct signature)
which do not allow a gravitational field. The incompatibility between
the field equations and the high symmetry imposed by the underlying
four-parameter group of motions acting on null hypersurfaces is removed
in the Einstein-Cartan theory of gravitation.
