Results are reported for an experimental study of the temperature dependence of methane emission transmission at temperatures of 228 to 296 K in the wavenumber region from 3025 to 3186 kaysers. A comparison of the experimental spectra obtained at temperatures of 253 and 295 K in the wavenumber region between 3098 and 3128 kaysers shows good agreement between theory and experiment. It is found that the R(-)10 line at 3122.4 kaysers is independent of temperature, that absorption increases with decreasing temperature for lines from R(-)9 to R(-)0, and that absorption decreases with decreasing temperature for lines from R(-)11 to R(-)16. Some lines are discussed which proved to be independent of temperature in the experiment but not in theoretical calculations. It is concluded that measurements of temperature dependence can facilitate the identification of unknown lines.
