The motion of short-period comets whose periods of revolution are nearly commensurate with that of Jupiter is studied analytically. It is shown that, at large eccentricities and orbital inclinations, the resonant properties based on the equation of a simple pendulum are retained. Consideration is given to the features of libration which make it possible to investigate the evolution of cometary orbits over significantly greater time intervals than is possible for typically stochastic motion.
