It is suggested that local magnetic field reconnection can be caused by vortices in the flow field. The vortex-induced reconnection may be an important mechanism of local reconnection in space plasma. An MHD simulation is used to investigate the nonlinear evolution of vortex reconnection. The basic properties of this reconnection model and its application to the magnetosphere are discussed.
