Initial results are presented for observations of energetic particle flux modulations at synchronous altitudes. Attention is given to examples of high-resolution data on electrons (over 30 keV) using a charged-particle analyzer on a geostationary satellite. In addition, frequency-of-occurrence data are derived for virtually all local times and for a variety of geomagnetic conditions on the basis of a statistical study of about 10 months of data. The occurrence distribution of the flux modulations in local time suggests that they are related to Pc 5 geomagnetic micropulsations observed at ground levels. The oscillations are observed both when the energetic particles have cigar-shaped pitch angle distributions and when they have pancake-shaped distributions.
