A maximum entropy spectrum analysis is carried out of time series characterizing the variation of the rate of the earth's rotation and the variation of atmospheric circulation and solar activity. The presence of close harmonics at low-frequencies in the length-of-day and solar-activity spectra indicates that irregular changes in the length of day may be attributed to the influence of the sun.
