The activities of the Laboratory of Space Technology in 1992 are described. The Laboratory is responsible for teaching space technology at the university. The main area in research is airborne and spaceborne remote sensing, including instrumentation, measurements, and development of geophysical inversion algorithms. Data from the ESA ERS-1 SAR was used in several projects, including remote sensing of sea ice, snow, and forests. In satellite technology, design and construction of our own satellite HUTSAT (Helsinki University of Technology Satellite) was started. In connection with the 22nd European Microwave Conference, the Laboratory of Space Technology organized a one-day Workshop on Microwaves in Environmental Monitoring.
