The applicability of the concept of a model-satr with uniform density and negligible pressure to the problem of gravitational collapse or anti-collapse is critically examined by comparing the radiation density with the matter density taking into account the energy loss due to the process e^+ + e^- {to} nu + bar{nu}. The neutrino surface intensity and the neutrino energy to be lost during some characteristic time interval are also calculated on the assumption that the neutrino production is going on uniformly throughout the stellar interior. It is shown that the model is applicable to a star with M {lesssim} 10^6 M_{odot} before or after some characteristic stage according as the star is collapsing or anti-collapsing.
