Particle-Theory And Field-Theory Models Of The Early Universe
Scientific paper
Global texture is believed to evolve such that the comoving number density of textures unwinding in a conformal time interval dη scales with the horizon size, dn/dη=νη-4. Predictions of the large-scale structure and microwave anisotropy generated by texture depend critically on the value of ν. It is suggested that previous analyses may have overestimated ν for various reasons, and the qualitative consequences of this are discussed. A preliminary reassessment suggests ν<0.01 in a matter-dominated universe, and the conditions for a more accurate determination are detailed.
