The electron collision strengths are calculated from the R-matrix program for the fine structure transitions within the 1s(2)2s(2)2p(2) (3)P ground state of Mg VII. In order to account for the contribution of resonances, the calculations are made at a large number of energies using the configuration interaction wavefunctions. From the collision strength data, excitation and deexcitation rate coefficients are obtained for fixed temperatures. The results are used to compute the relative populations of the five lowest levels of Mg VII within the 1s(2)2s(2)2p(2) configuration. Line intensity ratios are then calculated in the temperatre range 10 to the 5th - 10 to the 7th K at electron densities of 10 to the 6th 10 to the 10th per cu cm, and the calculated values are found to be in good agreement with the results reported earlier.
