Data are examined which suggest that a significant number of meteoroid bodies are distributed in interplanetary space not in a random fashion but in the form of discrete groups probably originating in 'dead' comets. It is noted in particular that the evolution of chain associations of comets may be accompanied by the formation of the parent bodies of meteroids, which could determine the periodicity of the fall frequency of meteroids onto the earth.
