Collision strengths calculated using the R-matrix method are presented for transitions between the lowest eight LS states of S V. Particularly for spin-forbidden transitions at low electron-impact energies, the cross sections are dominated by resonances. Collision rates have been calculated assuming a Maxwellian electron distribution and are consistent with those implied by observations of S V emission-line strengths in the solar spectrum.
