The design of the Giotto satellite is discussed. The corresponding experiments include measurement of the energy and mass distribution of positive ions near the comet, high temporal resolution measurement of the magnetic field, observation of gas and particles in 10 different wavelengths by a dedicated design camera, ultraviolet measurements in the vicinity of the comet, and visible spectrum observations from Earth using a charged coupled device camera.
