Godunov's finite-difference scheme using an axisymmetric flow model is used to investigate the explosion of a body (e.g., a meteoroid in the atmosphere) in flight. It is shown that, even for a relatively small contribution of kinetic energy (K sub 0 = 0.1 E sub 0), deviations from one-dimensional explosion flow are very significant, especially for a large initial density of the flying body. This is even more true when the kinetic energy K sub 0 is equal to or greater than the explosion energy E sub 0.
