OH/IR variables, of known period and with absolute bolometric luminosities derived from kinematic distances, lie in the mean on an extrapolation of the Mira period-luminosity relationship to longer periods. The scatter about the P-L relationship can be accounted for by errors in the kinematic distances resulting from a velocity dispersion of 32 km/s.
