The scalar theory of gravitation developed by Ferrari (1983 and 1984) is used to calculate the precession frequency of an orbital gyroscope, with the conditions that the laws of special relativity apply for a stationary observer in a gravitational field and that the physical parameters are measured by the observer at the site at which they occur. The result is shown to be at variance with that of the Einstein theory, the coefficient of c squared being -1/2 instead of 3/2. It is suggested that the validity of the theories could be tested by a gyroscope experiment.
