When using the approach previously suggested by Sazhin et al. (1981) a formula is derived for almost parallel R and L wave propagation in a hot anisotropic plasma. It is further analyzed for magnetospheric conditions. It is pointed out that the influence of finite electron temperature and anisotropy on R wave propagation is especially important when the wave frequency is close to the electron plasma frequency or the first two harmonics of the electron gyrofrequency. This influence is important for the L wave when the wave frequency is close to the electron plasma frequency. Thermal corrections to the refractive index of the wave remain finite even when the plasma velocity of the wave tends to zero. The focussing of R and L wave energy in a direction parallel to the magnetic field can take place at frequencies close to the electron plasma frequency, when the latter is not close to the first two harmonics of the electron gyrofrequency, even in a very low temperature plasma. This result could not be obtained within the model of wave propagation in a cold plasma.
