The graduate school of space technology is one of 16 national graduate schools funded by the Swedish Governement. It is hosted by Luleå University of Technology and located in Kiruna. The Government has designated Umeå University as partner. The graduate school takes advantage of the existing space research and education programmes in Kiruna, Luleå and Umeå. A large number of students have shown interest to join the graduate school. The first PhD student started in November 2001. Collaboration has been established with other universities in Sweden, the Swedish Institute of Space Physics, as well as with space related industry. The PhD projects cover a wide range of topics. The objectives, organisation, courses, and some of the projects are briefly described in this report.
