The Galactic superluminal source GRO J1655-40 is a binary system containing a 7 M_sun black hole. XMM-Newton observations during high/soft state in March 2005 have shown clear He-like Fe absorption lines in the EPIC spectra, while RGS has provided the first high resolution spectra of the source, showing absorption features at 0.7 keV, probably due to blueshifted Fe XVIII. We propose triggered observations of GRO J1655-40 both in a new high state, as well as in the very high and low states, aimed to follow the evolution of these absorption features, study their dependence with the X-ray intensity and determine the nature of the absorber.
