We will use a 50 ks EPIC observation to probe galaxy-IGM-radio jet interactions in the dumbbell galaxies NGC4782(3C278) and NGC4783. We will construct temperature, density, and pressure maps to delineate the large scale structure of the group IGM and properties of the hot gas in and around the interacting galaxies and radio jets to (1) constrain the dynamical motion of NGC4782 and NGC4783 relative to the IGM, (2) determine the mass, temperature, and density of the hot ISM in each galaxy and in the IGM, (3) study gas-stripping processes through the properties of the galaxy wakes and inter-connecting bridge, and (4) constrain models of radio jet interactions, (e.g. through jet bending and deceleration, plume and X-ray knot formation) with the IGM and galaxy ISM.
