Single hot white dwarfs (WDs) should exhibit no detectable emission at energies above 0.25 keV. We have discovered two single hot WDs, KPD0005+5106 and PG1159, that defy this paradigm and show 1 keV emission in ROSAT archival data. Optical, IR and X-ray data rule out plausible late-type companions or coincident background AGN as the culprits. We request XMM-Newton observations of KPD0005+5106 and PG1159 to obtain their X-ray spectral energy distribution and temporal behavior in order to determine the origin of their 1 keV emission and to constrain models of their stellar atmospheres.
