Spontaneous Breaking Of Gauge Symmetries

Scientific paper

A simple argument using a bosonization technique is presented to explain
that superconducting strings have a net angular momentum carried by
fermionic zero modes trapped on a string. The induced angular momentum
is shown to be nonvanishing if the scalar phase field φ develops a
kink along a string φ(+∞)-φ(-∞)≠0. .AE
