This paper describes the palaeomagnetism of 37 samples of clay from Pwll y Gwynt, Powys. The laminated sediments are shown to have acquired a depositional remanent magnetisation in both normal and reversed polarity geomagnetic fields. Magnetic susceptibility anisotropy results from a tilted clay layer suggest that the transition from a strike oriented to a dip oriented magnetic lineation occurs close to a slope of 20°. A slumped clay unit is found to contain a well defined magnetic fabric which can be related to shearing processes during emplacement.
