Satellite observations of polar cap emission in the 800 to 1400 Å band are reported. The data were obtained along the noon-midnight meridian on March 22, 1979, by the EUV spectrometer on board the STP78-1 satellite. The time-averaged spectrum shows no molecular band emission. Several bright atomic oxygen lines are present in the spectrum. Weak signals from atomic nitrogen are also seen. The author speculates that these emissions are caused by particles having similar characteristic energy to those producing emissions observed in the dayside cusp during the same pass.
