Drift speeds of electron density irregularities in the equatorial electrojet region of sizes in the kilometer range (from VHF scintillations) and a few meters range (from VHF backscatter radar) have been compared under type I and type II irregularity conditions. The drift speeds, over the irregularity size range studied, match only when type II conditions prevail. The implications of the results are discussed in the light of the electrojet irregularity characteristics.
