An analytical solution is obtained to the energy-balance equation for
plasma temperature in the geomagnetic-equator plane with allowance for
longitudinal plasma motions. The influence of large-scale magnetospheric
convection on energy-exchange (heating and cooling) processes in the
upper ionosphere is clarified.
