I will present the results of simulations of the dynamical evolution of globular cluster systems (GCSs) in elliptical galaxies. The role of evolutionary processes in determining the current properties of GCSs and the dependence of the evolution of the number of clusters of the GCS mass function and of the GCS spatial distribution on the properties of the host galaxies will be discussed. The results of detailed models for the evolution of the M87 GCS will also be presented. The results of the simulations presented show that evolutionary processes lead to the disruption of a significant number of clusters and that the properties of a large fraction of the surviving clusters are significantly affected by dynamical evolution. The final GCS properties in our simulations are in agreement with the findings of observational studies which indicate a small galaxy-to-galaxy dispersion of the GCS mean mass and small radial gradients of the GCS mean mass within individual galaxies.
