A numerical model describing a supernova explosion lasting about half a second which results from the gravitational collapse of the central core of a highly evolved, massive star is considered. Emphasis is placed on the core-collapse supernova process and the processes occurring in the inner 2 solar masses of a typical 15-solar mass star. Also discussed are physical processes such as thermonuclear burn rates, Compton scattering and electron capture incorporated in a self-consistent supernova model, in addition to hydrodynamical bounce, infall velocities, and shock waves passing through the neutrino photosphere. A two-dimensional Lagrangian model of lepton-induced convective instability in a hot supernova remnant from about 2 ms to 5.3 ms is presented.
