Maps of Jupiter based on Pioneer photographs are presented and examined in relation to ground-based observations. Several unusual features observed in the temperate regions are described in detail, including a remarkably long-lived 'step' down from the North Temperate Belt (northern component) onto a darkening North North Temperate Belt, prominent regularly arranged oval white spots in the southern hemisphere, and a fading section of the South Temperate Belt. Attention is also given to very rapid currents seen in the South Tropical Zone and two great plumes in the equatorial zone. It is suggested that spots at all System II latitudes may all be the same type of feature, whether they are red spots, white spots, or dark rings and whether they persist for weeks or centuries.
