Carbon isotope fractionations ɛHCO3-CO2(g) and ɛCO3-CO2(g) have been obtained in open system experiments. At medium-pH, measured isotopic fractionations ɛ between total dissolved carbonate TDC and CO2(g) were 7.32 +/- 0.07‰ and 6.15 +/- 0.08‰ at 25° and 40°C, respectively. Assuming ɛCO2*(aq)-CO2(g) = -1.06‰ from Vogel et al. (19 [5] and ion speciation in the solution, calculated fractionations ɛHCO3-CO2(g) are 8.21‰ at 25°C and 6.71‰ at 40°C. At high-pH, measured isotopic fractionations between TDC and CO2(g) were 8.30 +/- 0.09‰ and 6.69 +/- 0.15‰ at 25° and 40°C, respectively. Considering ion speciations and the above fractionation ɛHCO3-CO2(g), we derived ɛCO3-CO2(g) as equal to 8.38‰ at 25°C and 6.67‰ at 40°C.
