The methods of least percentage squares and compound least squares have been in the past treated for linear regression by successive approximationsE In extending the discussions to the regressions of polynominal and reciprocals of polynominal, it has been found that another method of approximation is more convenient, that the reciprocal of polynomial is a regression whose coefficients can be determined exactly, and that the methods of least and compound least squares are actually the special cases of the method of least percentage squares. The standard error of estimate and the correlation coefficient are also defined for the methods of least percentage squares and compound least squares.
