Some theoretical descriptions of oscillatory phenomena associated with
solar activity are considered. Particular emphasis is given to the
theory of MHD waves in a structured atmosphere and to the consistency
with observations of some of its predictions. Proposed mechanisms for
the wave heating of the corona are reviewed briefly.
