Upgrading optical performance of a very large telescope is potentially an important factor in minimizing time and cost for completion of optical subsystems. Careful protection of the local environment at a telescope will give 0.25 asec FWHM image to the focal plane. In order to match this seeing the specification that must be placed on the optics approaches that for the Hubble Space Telescope.
