Ir is very difficult to polish with great accuracy non spherical convex mirrors such as V.L.T. secondaries. Concave mirrors are much easier to manufacture than convex mirrors. However, starting with a concave non spherical polished surface, it is possible to obtain, by the replication technique, many identical non spherical convex mirrors of accurate shape.
