For the investigation of the possibility of symmetry breaking and restoration arising from the dynamics of background field and geometry, we have analyzed the case of a self-interacting scalar field in a spatially flat Robertson-Walker universe under the quasilocal approximation on the background field. The effective mass receives contributions from the temporal variations of the background field and curvature both classically and with quantum radiative corrections, indicating that the dynamics of the background can affect the symmetry behavior of the system.
