The accretion disk limit cycle mechanism is a promising model for the recurrent outbursts of dwarf novae. The authors are concerned in this work with the time scales associated with the bursts, both the recurrence interval and burst duration. They consider a simple analytical model for the mass fluxes at the inner disk edge and across the transition front between the hot and cold portions of the disk. The authors place constraints on the secondary mass transfer rate MT and quiescent accretion disk viscosity by comparing the theoretical expression for the recurrence time scale with an observed distribution of outburst recurrence time versus orbital period.
