The 40Ca(α, γ)44Ti reaction has been investigated in the astrophysically important energy region Eα = 2.75-4.00 MeV corresponding to T = 1.2 to 2.1 × 109 °K. Values for ωγ have been determined for the 12 isolated resonances observed in this region. Gamma-ray angular distributions taken at the 9 highest energy resonances have been used to determine the most likely Jπ values for the resonances and the multipolarity of the principal γ-ray transitions. The empirical energy averaged astrophysical reaction rate determined from these data is compared with the Hauser-Feshbach calculations of Woosley et al.
