The paper makes a distinction between microwave bursts and bursts in the decimetric, metric, and decametric band in terms of different mechanisms of energy production in the flare region and different perturbation effects on the coronal plasma. Microwave bursts are grouped into three categories from the morphological point of view: pulsed, gradual, and type IV-mu bursts. Decimetric-metric-decametric bursts are grouped into type III, type II, and type IV bursts. Burst characteristics and mechanisms are reviewed, and particular attention is given to the association of bursts with chromospheric flare phenomena.
