Prognoz-satellite measurements of the first arrival of high-energy protons from intense solar flares have shown a delay of the escape of high-energy protons from the solar corona with respect to the explosive phase of the flare. The delay of the injection of energetic solar particles into interplanetary space is explained by the fact that the acceleration of protons to energies exceeding 100 MeV occurs not during the explosive phase but later. This provides evidence in support of the acceleration of solar cosmic rays in intense flares in two stages.
