The relative roles of various acceleration mechanisms are discussed along with the relative roles of interplanetary acceleration, coronal acceleration, and acceleration in the region of primary energy release for various solar flares. Particular attention is given to statistical acceleration in MHD turbulence; the acceleration of relativistic particles in pulsed electric fields arising in magnetic-reconnection processes; and shear flows in active regions.
