The equations of motion of an interface between two phases with an arbitrary equation of state are obtained. It is found that the process of vacuum burning can take place. It is shown that under certain conditions the process of the expansion of new phase bubbles is described by the equations of detonation waves. Possible cosmological consequences of the metastable phase burning effect are briefly discussed.
