T Tauri Stars: Circumstellar Disks
Scientific paper
T Tauri stars and their surrounding circumstellar disks grow by accretion of matter caused by dynamical infall of the protostellar envelopes. Recently, several observations of protostellar envelopes with millimeter arrays were made, providing strong evidence for infall in these envelopes. However, these observations were not able to reveal the internal structure of the envelope because of their insufficient angular resolution. To reveal the detailed structure of a protostellar envelope, the authors have made aperture synthesis C18O(1-0) observations of the nearby (d = 140 pc) protostar L1551 IRS5 using the Nobeyama Millimeter Array with higher angular resolution. Thanks to the high angular resolution, the detailed structure of the envelope has successfully been revealed.
