H2 emission in the spectrum of HH 101 has been detected. The
linestrength of the v = 1-0 S(1) line at 2.12 microns is (4.2 + or -
0.6) x 10 to the -17th W/sq m and indicates that a shock with a velocity
of about 14 km/s is moving into a cloud of density about 1000 per cu cm
if Schwartz's model for Herbig-Haro objects is valid.
