Techniques for predicting the radiation hazard in interplanetary space are discussed. Data from the satellites 'Prognoz-1' and 'Prognoz-2' are presented. Analysis of the average daily exposures shows that the main portion of the radiation consists of protons and helium nuclei produced by the sun and varying in accord with the solar activity cycle. During chromospheric flares the particle flow may increase a thousand times; this constitutes a significant hazard. The cosmic ray flux varies with periods of solar activity, never exceeding 5-10 rad.
