The configuration and extent of the solar wind region is markedly influenced by the state of the interstellar gas in the space about the sun. In the present paper, the dynamics of the interstellar gas in the gravitational field of the sun is analyzed with allowance for the partial ionization of the gas by solar UV radiation. The analysis indicates that at distances on the order of 10 AU, the pressure of the interstellar gas becomes greater than that of the solar wind. It may be thus assumed that (at least in direction of the apex) the extent of the solar wind is roughly 10 AU.
