Spectrographic data are used to show that the intensities as well as the vibrational and rotational temperatures of terrestrial upper-atmospheric hydroxyl emission vary regularly with lunar cycle. The data also indicate that the two temperatures are maximum in winter and minimum in summer. Theoretical calculations of the amplitude of the lunar tide in the upper atmosphere are found to indicate that there may be seasonal variations in the altitude of the hydroxyl-emission layer.
